Castro Steps Down in Cuba!
What does this mean?
By Robert R. Barney
Fidel Castro resigned as Cuba's president Tuesday after fifty years in power. In a letter published in online Cuba's official media said that he would not accept a new term when the newly elected parliament meets on Sunday. "I will not aspire nor accept—I repeat I will not aspire or accept—the post of President of the Council of State and Commander in Chief," said Castro who has been very sick now for several years. His brother Raul, 76 has been running the country. No doubt this will go over good in South Florida, where Castro is hated by the Cuban community.
This marks and end of Castro, but what it means for Cuba is yet to be seen. The Cubans in America are some of the best businessmen in the world and true capitalist. If democracy grabs hold in that country, expect many Cubans to return to their homeland to try and make their money there. That will cause problems, and it is yet to be seen how or when this could happen. It is only a matter of time, that a new revolution will occur in Cuba, and that country will quickly become an economic powerhouse!
